Koichi Sakamoto(1932-)
Born in Tochigi Prefecture, he began studying Japanese-style painting around 1953 and began self-taught printmaking around 1955. 1957 he exhibited his Japanese-style paintings at the Shinseisaku-kyokai Exhibition, and in 1960 he exhibited for the first time at the Exhibition of the Japan Print Association. 1966 onward he exhibited his copperplate prints at the Shunyokai Exhibition and the Japan Print Association Exhibition. In 1967, he held his first solo exhibition. He presented a series of paintings of birds, pigeons, shells, and private villages, incorporating his own unique sentiment into lonely human dwellings.
